The German school of Mexico City, founded in 1894 and one of the oldest German schools abroad. Part of the global German Auslandsschulen network, ZfA accredited, and trilingual across Spanish, German, and English from kindergarten upward.

Three campuses serve roughly 2,900 students: West (formerly La Herradura) covers all stages, North in Lomas Verdes splits primary and secondary across two sites, and South sits in Xochimilco. The German-track sections lead to the German Abitur as well as the Mexican bachillerato.

The natural fit is German and Mexican-German families who want continuity into a German university, plus Mexican families who choose it for the trilingual model and the academic structure. Class sizes are capped around 26, and the school keeps a more formal, structured tone than the American-track alternatives.

  • The largest German Auslandsschule outside Germany, with three Greater Mexico City campuses under one school board, more than 130 years of history and around 130-school international network ties.
  • Curriculum is German with a bicultural, trilingual stack: Spanish, German and English, leading to the German International Abitur and the Mexican bachillerato.
  • One Reddit commenter on a Mexico City schools thread put the Alexander von Humboldt institute and the Lycée Français alongside the American School Foundation as the three Mexico City schools whose qualifications are recognised for university entry in their respective home countries.
  • On the Spanish-language directory MiCole, parents rate the school an average 3.6 of 5 across about 50 reviews, with five-star comments calling teaching "super advanced and professional" and other commentators describing the alumni base as more open and worldly than peers from some other Mexican private schools.
  • The same Reddit thread also notes that parents seeking a non-religious, non-bilingual local option often turn here, and that the school is regularly grouped with Liceo Mexicano Japonés and the American School as the city's most demanding selective options.
