The British School of Madrid
Pioneer British school in Pozuelo de Alarcon founded in 1940, offering British curriculum alongside the Spanish BiBac bilingual baccalaureate for ages 2 to 18; part of the Inspired Education group. 2025-2026 fees run from EUR 5,100 (Pre-Nursery mornings) to EUR…
In brief
Founded in 1940 as the first British school in Spain, formerly British Council School and now trading as The British School after separating from the British Council. Settled in Somosaguas, Pozuelo de Alarcón, around 12 km from central Madrid.
Bilingual British curriculum with roughly 80 percent of teaching in English from age 2 to 16 and Spanish language and humanities alongside. Senior students take Cambridge Advanced, Pearson Edexcel and Oxford AQA exam routes. BSO inspected. Fees announced from around 5,100 euros in early years to 14,000 euros at the top, modest for a name-brand British school.
One of the most established names in the city, with deep alumni networks across Madrid professional life. Families value the long teaching tenure and the bilingual exit, where students leave genuinely fluent in both languages. The campus is a drive from central Madrid, so the school suits families based on the west side or willing to take the bus routes from Pozuelo. Best fit for Spanish and bicultural families wanting a British education without leaving the Spanish system entirely.
