SIAL.school

A small English-Italian bilingual primary in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, just off Holland Park, run by the SIAL charity for families who want their children genuinely bilingual rather than picking up Italian as an enrichment subject.

Fees, annual
GBP 17–23k

A small English-Italian bilingual primary in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, just off Holland Park, run by the SIAL charity for families who want their children genuinely bilingual rather than picking up Italian as an enrichment subject.

All subjects are taught in both languages on a parity basis from nursery through Year 6. Most families have at least one Italian parent, with a strong mix of dual-nationality households living locally in Holland Park, Notting Hill, and Hammersmith, and a smaller commuting contingent from further out.

Parents praise the small classes, the warmth of the staff, and the family feel. Ofsted in March 2023 graded the school Good overall with Outstanding for behaviour and personal development. The trade-off is scale: tiny year groups, limited specialist facilities, and a project to build a secondary that has been talked about for years rather than delivered. Families wanting a bigger pond or a clear secondary route plan accordingly.

Fee Age Type Amount
EYFS (Nursery) 3 Annual £17,442
EYFS (Reception) 4 Annual £20,930
KS1 & 2 (Years 1-6) 5 Annual £23,389

  • Parent voice online is small but consistently positive: an English-Italian bilingual nursery and primary in Holland Park with class sizes capped around 16.
  • The repeated theme is that the bi-curricular load works because classes stay small and teachers know each child.
  • Ofsted's 2023 inspection rated the school Good overall, with Behaviour and Attitudes and Personal Development judged Outstanding, which parents cite when defending the choice on forums.
  • The recurring practical caveat is scale: the school is not well known outside the Italian-speaking community, and there is no secondary phase yet, though one is being planned.
