RGS Surrey Hills
RGS Surrey Hills is the rebranded Box Hill School, taken over by the Reigate Grammar School Group in summer 2025.
In brief
RGS Surrey Hills is the rebranded Box Hill School, taken over by the Reigate Grammar School Group in summer 2025. Co-ed day and boarding for 11 to 18 on a 40 acre campus in Mickleham near Dorking, around 375 pupils with the IB Diploma alongside A Levels.
Box Hill was a founding member of the Round Square network and ran the IB from 2008. Under the new ownership, leadership, teaching staff and curriculum stay in place, with the IB pathway potentially extending to other RGS Group pupils. Roughly 60 percent day and 40 percent boarders, around a quarter from overseas, in six small boarding houses for up to 155.
In 2024, 21 percent of A Levels were A* or A and the IB averaged 32 points, consistent with a gentler, less selective profile than its new parent in Reigate. Families describe a school that suits children who thrive with structure, encouragement and breadth, and parents who want an organised, thoughtful environment without pressure. Best fit for families south of the M25 wanting boarding or IB on a countryside campus.

Reviews
- Formerly Box Hill School, rebranded after joining Reigate Grammar's group; older online discussion still references the previous identity.
- Co-curricular and outdoor education sit at the centre of the offer, with sport, music, drama and 40 acres of grounds repeatedly cited as draws.
- Pastoral and academic style described as small classes, close staff-pupil relationships and dual A-level / IB pathway in the sixth form.
- Inspectors flagged inconsistent supervision outside lessons and uneven use of pupil-progress data; older parent threads also raised staff turnover and behaviour concerns under the previous name.
- Suits families wanting all-round education over selective hot-housing; pupils described as motivated rather than highly academic by reputation.
