Founded in 2001 by Captain Sukdev Singh, a former Malaysia Airlines pilot, Sri Dasmesh International School operates from Taman Pantai Baharu serving students from Years 1 through 11 following the British curriculum leading to IGCSE examinations. The school distinguishes itself through its integration of Franklin Covey's '7 Habits of Highly Effective Kids' program, becoming the first Malaysian school accredited to deliver this leadership curriculum in 2012. By 2016, SDIS achieved recognition as Malaysia's first 'Lighthouse' school for teaching leadership principles and creating a leadership-focused culture throughout the institution.

The school maintains unique cultural connections through its affiliated Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band, which trains on campus and includes students from age 11 alongside community members up to age 40. This 40-member ensemble, the world's largest Sikh bagpipe group, won the 2019 World Pipe Band Championships Grade 4B as the first Southeast Asian victor and recently performed Malaysia's first full-scale bagpipe concert at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS. With Year 7 fees below RM20,000 annually, SDIS positions itself as an affordable international option while maintaining focus on character development, discipline, and music education alongside academic achievement.

  • Independent parent reviews on aggregator sites cluster around the high 3s out of 5, with a clear split between defenders and detractors.
  • Positive accounts emphasise wholesome teaching, character development and one of the lower fee structures among Kuala Lumpur international schools, reflecting the school's non-profit Sikh-community origin.
  • Critical alumni reviews allege a heavy academic-pressure culture, with one ex-student saying lower-scoring children were treated as second class and another reporting a child fainting from homework load.
  • Recurring concerns include the canteen sitting next to bathrooms, insect and hygiene complaints, and the school publicly announcing students who score 6As or above.
  • Some reviewers also raise community favouritism toward Punjabi families and limited responsiveness from leadership to parent feedback.
