Co-educational independent school in Bedfordview, founded in 1974 by the Hellenic community in Johannesburg under the late Advocate George Bizos. Around 1,300 students from 14 months to matric, IEB curriculum, with Greek language and culture taught alongside.

SAHETI stands for South African Hellenic Educational and Technical Institute. The school's motto is Know Thyself, the values frame is Greek (democracy, integrity, wisdom, philotimo), and Greek is offered as a recognised second language, but the community is open beyond the Hellenic diaspora. The 2024 cohort was the top-performing IEB school in the country, with 4.5 distinctions per candidate and a 100% pass rate.

Families talk about a tight community feel, with siblings and now children of alumni passing through the same campus from pre-primary through high school. Fees are at the lower end of the Johannesburg private band, roughly R67,000 to R192,000. Best fit for east-Rand families wanting a strong IEB academic record, an active Greek and South African cultural identity, and a smaller-scale community than the bigger Sandton schools.

  • IEB matric results sit at the top of the South African private-school table, with the school posting 100 percent pass rates and one of the highest distinctions-per-candidate ratios in the country.
  • Parents who post call out small classes, teacher quality, and a tight Greek-South African community feel.
  • Greek language is taught as a recognised second language, which shapes the student body as much as it shapes the curriculum.
  • Enrolment has slipped in recent years, with families pulling out in numbers that have been reported in the press. The school's academic line has held while the roll has thinned.
