A young American-curriculum school in Büyükçekmece that consistently draws sharp criticism from current and former families on management and staff stability.

Brights opened in 2019, not 1987 as some directories list. The curriculum is American, K-12, with Turkish and Arabic taught alongside English. The school positions itself at families wanting an English-medium American track on the European side of Istanbul, and the marketing materials are polished.

The signal from families who have actually enrolled is mixed and skews critical. Recurring themes include very high teacher turnover (parents report 15 new teachers in a recent stretch), a USD-fee-but-TRY-salary structure that limits who the school can hire, undelivered extracurricular promises, and serious behavioural complaints about specific staff. Some families describe a warm community and praise individual teachers. Tour the school carefully, talk to current families directly, and weigh the gap between the show day and the day-to-day.

  • Independent parent reviews of Brights International School of Istanbul are dominated by serious complaints. Aggregator overall scores sit around 2.1 to.
  • One parent in May 2026 said the academic level is extremely low and that teachers are unable to speak proper English, with staff using phones during class and inadequate supervision.
  • Another parent in September 2025 said management is focused on collecting money, that staff lack teaching qualifications, and that they moved their children out of the school.
  • A November 2022 parent review described racism toward Syrian and African students, alleged inappropriate physical contact by teachers, bullying and weak child-protection policies. Earlier Google reviews from 2020-2024 are positive, including a five-year-old set of five-star reviews praising staff.
  • The pattern across recent independent reviews is a sharp decline in confidence: high teacher turnover, weak management and serious behavioural concerns, balanced against a much older, school-friendly review pool.
