An Anglican Direct Subsidy Scheme school in Mid-Levels with a serious academic reputation and one of the strongest IB cohorts in Hong Kong.

SPCC sits on MacDonnell Road and runs HKDSE and IB Diploma in parallel, an unusual setup that lets families pick the path that fits the child. The 2024 IB cohort averaged 42.1 out of 45 across 52 students, which puts the school in the top tier globally. Founded in 1915, became co-educational in 1945, joined the DSS in 2001.

The student body is largely local Hong Kong Chinese, English-medium, with a Christian framing through the Sheng Kung Hui sponsorship. It is a Round Square network member, the first in Greater China. Families choose SPCC for the academic ceiling and the dual-track flexibility rather than for an international, expat-heavy environment. Fees sit around HKD 165,000 to 213,000, modest for what the school delivers.

  • IB results dominate the conversation. The 2024 cohort of 52 averaged 42.1 out of 45, with one perfect score and 11 students scoring 44.
  • Oxbridge and Ivy League placements are the headline. SPCC consistently leads Hong Kong on Oxbridge offers, with 2024 destinations including Cambridge, Imperial, LSE, UCL, Yale, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, and Berkeley.
  • One teacher posted directly boasting the school has 'the highest average IBDP score globally' and that more than half of students gain admission to Oxbridge or Ivy League each year.
  • Students describe the academic culture as competitive but well-supported. One ex-pupil recounted taking International A-levels with A*s in physics, further maths and chemistry as an 'average year 10 student' there.
  • Listings note bilingual diplomas earned across the cohort, with both DSE and IB pathways offered.

Positives

  • Top IB outcomes. Average IBDP scores in the low-42s with a high tail of 44s and 45s; reviewers treat SPCC as a benchmark for Hong Kong.
  • Oxbridge and Ivy League pipeline. Multiple recent cohorts produce Cambridge, Yale, Cornell, and Imperial offers.
  • Bilingual and dual-track curriculum. Both DSE and IBDP pathways available with bilingual diplomas earned across the IB cohort.

Considerations

  • Competitive academic culture. Reviewers describe an intense but efficient teaching environment with strong student outcomes; one student framed an A*-heavy result as 'average' for the school.
