In brief
The secondary extension of the La Découverte family of schools, taking the bilingual French-English approach into the cycle and college years for students moving on from the primary.
La Découverte was founded in the early 1990s by Catherine Firmenich and a group of teachers, psychologists and parents. The college level was added later as the original primary cohorts grew up. Nicolas Firmenich, her son, now leads the schools. The pedagogy stays consistent across the institution: active learning, philosophy discussions, class councils and ongoing formative assessment rather than test-driven teaching.
Families come for the small scale and the bilingual continuity. Numbers are modest enough that pupils are known individually and relationships across year groups feel close. Parents praise the teachers and the personalised feel. Fees of CHF 16,470 to 18,950 sit at the lower end of the Geneva private market. The trade-off most often mentioned by families used to larger institutions is fewer extracurricular options and less developed sports than the bigger Geneva schools offer, which the school's progressive philosophy partly accepts as part of the model.
