Founded
2005

Founded in 2005 and operated by the Al-Futtaim Education Foundation, DIS serves students aged 3-18 following the British curriculum through GCSEs on its purpose-built Festival City campus. The school maintains Outstanding ratings from both KHDA and BSO inspections, with recent recognition including placement among the Top 100 UAE schools and Platinum certification as one of the world's Best Schools to Work. The 2025 GCSE cohort achieved some of the school's strongest results to date, marking its 20th anniversary year.

However, teacher and parent discussions paint a concerning picture beneath these official accolades. Former staff and students describe frequent principal changes, with reports of a new head practically every year creating instability. Multiple sources indicate that experienced, quality teachers have departed, with one former student noting that current staff 'don't hold a candle to the OGs.' Teachers warn potential colleagues to 'avoid Deira International School like the plague,' describing it as 'a terrible school' currently 'in a state of disaster.' These accounts suggest a significant disconnect between official ratings and the actual school experience.

  • Deira International School in Festival City is rated Outstanding by KHDA and by British Schools Overseas (most recent 2025 inspection). On the regulator's view, it's in tier-one in Dubai.
  • Parent feedback online is more polarised than that rating suggests. WhichSchoolAdvisor's parent survey of 136 families gave an overall, with 80% saying they would recommend the school and 22% having considered moving their child.
  • The split shows up clearly. One Dubai parent describes DIS as "outstanding," another tells a teacher to "avoid Deira International School like the plague," and a third says their sister attends and they "absolutely recommend."
  • Recurring positive themes are diversity (over 80 nationalities), inclusive culture, dedicated teachers and Foundation Stage. One parent said "FS is absolutely amazing. The variety of activities that the children take part in daily is incredible."
  • The recurring caveats are fees and value. Only 43% of WhichSchoolAdvisor parents felt fees represent good value. Forty percent said their child needed external tutoring, above the UAE average of 30%.
  • Teacher turnover is reported at 29%, at the higher end for the city. Parents and teachers a real factor about how stable the senior staff team is in the year groups you're considering.
