Doha College

Qatar's only not-for-profit British school, rated Outstanding in all categories by BSO (2023) and the only Qatar school in the Spear's Top 100 global schools index for 2025 and 2026. Fees cover FS1 to Year 13 across a single campus…

The senior name on the British circuit in Qatar, opened in September 1980 in a Salwa Road villa and now on a purpose-built Al Wajba campus the school moved into for its 40th anniversary. Around 2,600 pupils from 80-plus nationalities, English National Curriculum through to IGCSE and A Level.

Doha College is the only not-for-profit British curriculum school in Qatar and is treated as the default benchmark when expat families compare options. BSO Outstanding at the November 2023 inspection, and a place in the Spear's Schools Index 2026. The Al Wajba site replaced the long-running Al Waab campus in 2020.

Admission is competitive and applications close early. Families coming in with year groups already full are routinely waitlisted. The praise is consistent on academic results, university destinations and facilities. The recurring grumble is communication, with some parents finding pastoral and admin response slower than they expected at this fee level. Best fit for academically confident children whose families want the closest thing to a UK selective day school in Qatar.

  • Doha College is the most consistently recommended British curriculum school in Qatar and parent forums. The 2023 BSO inspection rated it Outstanding across all areas, including teaching, achievement, leadership and curriculum. The school is non-profit.
  • Among British-curriculum families, Doha College is the default first pick. One 2025 thread put it like this: "Doha College is the only one I can safely recommend." Recommendations consistently rank it above DBS, Compass, Sherborne and Newton.
  • It is selective. One former teacher said it was "fairly selective when I was there," with a mix of "seriously tutored kids and lots of tiger mums," and that places fill quickly each year.
  • Academic results are strong by international school standards. Doha College reached 64% A*/A at A Level in 2023, putting it among the higher-performing British international schools globally.
  • A Level fees sit at the top end for Doha (above 65k QAR). Several parents noted the gap with DBS but said the difference shows in teaching, support and university outcomes.
  • The most concrete criticism is around bullying. One 2025 r/qatar parent who otherwise recommended the school said the only issue was bullying "but that's at all schools here and nothing is ever done about it." Older Glassdoor and forum reviews flag weak two-way parent and teacher communication.
