In brief
A single-campus, owner-run Cambridge school in Perungalathur on Chennai's southern fringe, pitched at families who want the full Cambridge ladder without the fees of the city's marquee international schools.
Founded in 2005 by the Kumaraguru family, with the late former Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker Munu Adhi as a founding trustee, the school runs the complete Cambridge pathway from kindergarten through Primary, Lower Secondary, IGCSE and AS and A Level. It is led by director Mrs. Manjula Kumaraguru, who holds a Cambridge education diploma. Ages run from 2.5 to 19, coeducational and English medium.
The recurring draw is value: parents describe fees that sit well below other Chennai IGCSE schools, alongside small classes and teachers they rate. Infrastructure is seen as strong for the Perungalathur area, though the location is a long way south of central Chennai. Seats are limited and admissions can be competitive. Fees are not published online and need a direct enquiry.
Reviews
Families who stay tend to talk warmly about how their children settle: quieter kids drawn out into sports and activities, a low pupil-to-teacher count, and staff parents describe as patient and approachable. The flip side that surfaces is administrative rather than academic. The collection of fees draws the sharpest words, with parents describing pointed messages and repeated calls to the school when a payment runs even a couple of days late, and at least one parent reporting teaching that felt like it lost ground after the pandemic, with little extra help for a child who was struggling. Seats are few and grades run only one or two sections deep, so the experience hinges heavily on the particular teachers a child lands with.
Positives
- Settling and engagement. Parents repeatedly describe shy children opening up here, taking to sports, annual-day performances and clubs, and crediting individual teachers for an easy transition into the school.
- Small, personal classes. Reviews point to a low pupil-to-teacher ratio, around fifteen children to a teacher, with only one or two sections per grade, which families read as individual attention rather than a crowded room.
Considerations
- Fee collection and communication. A recurring complaint is the way overdue fees are chased: parents report messages they found threatening and repeated summons to the school when a payment is only a day or two late, and a sense that concerns raised about teachers are not genuinely acted on.
- Teaching quality and academic support. Against a longer run of praise for the teachers, a more recent parent reports the standard of teaching slipping after the pandemic and little intervention for a child falling behind, enough to move the child elsewhere; treat it as one strong dissenting voice rather than a settled pattern.
- Location and access. The campus sits well off the main road on Chennai's far southern edge, and parents note the approach can be awkward in the monsoon, eased mainly by using the school transport; some say the local roads have improved over time.
