  • Often the placement school of last resort. Generation 2004 reports that EU staff who did not get their preferred school in Brussels are routinely assigned to Laeken or to Woluwe-Evere.
  • 74 nationalities and a teacher-pupil ratio near 1:10. The international mix is a clear positive against the placement frustration.
  • The campus opened in its current Laeken location in 2012 and parents call it the most modern of the four sites. One r/brussels resident described daily life around the school, noting that students cross from Bockstael through working-class Neder-Over-Heembeek to reach it.
  • Eight language sections, including Romanian, Bulgarian and Estonian, sections that are thinner or absent at the other three Brussels European Schools.
  • Critics and r/brussels apply the same EU-bubble argument as for the other Brussels sites, but Laeken sits geographically and culturally outside the southern Eurocrat belt. That mismatch is the source of much of the parental dissatisfaction with assignments here.
