State Europaschule primary in Zehlendorf at Hüttenweg 40, the English-German strand of Berlin's free public bilingual programme. Around 400 children, half the students and staff English mother-tongue, families from over thirty-six countries on roll.

Each year group runs one regular German class alongside two bilingual European classes. In the bilingual stream maths and PE are taught in German, while science, history, geography, music and art are taught in English; French is added from year 5. Full-day school from 8am to 4pm, no fees.

The parent draw is straightforward. Genuine bilingual public education in a leafy west Berlin catchment, multicultural in a way most state primaries are not, and a feeder route into the Berlin secondary system rather than a private bubble. Reviews available are positive on management and the international atmosphere. Sample size is small, so weight the school visit and the conversations with current families heavily; admission is by Berlin's state allocation rules, with the bilingual stream usually requiring an English-speaking household or evidence of strong English.
