École Voltaire was founded in 1994 and is part of the AEFE network, which sets the curriculum, validates the staff and feeds graduates directly into the secondary Französisches Gymnasium. Time is split close to evenly between French and German in the early years, tilting to about 55 percent French in elementary, with English added in CE2.

Annual fees in the low five-thousands of euros are modest by international-school standards in Berlin. The school is small and the published parent voice is thin. Extracurricular range and facilities are limited compared to the larger international schools; families who plan to stay in the AEFE system get genuine French-curriculum continuity in return.
