IB

Small German-language IB school on Avinguda Pearson at the upper edge of Barcelona, around 300 students from roughly 40 nationalities. The only school in Spain to run the full PYP and MYP in German.

Founded in the late 1960s by a couple teaching small groups in cramped rooms, the school has grown into a settled, family-feeling institution rather than a corporate operation. German is the main vehicle of instruction, with Spanish, English and Catalan layered in as students move up. All German teachers are native speakers.

The pull is the combination of German rigour and the IB inquiry frame, which is unusual in this market. Class sizes are small, and the community is genuinely tight, which is the most consistent thread families mention. The trade-off is scale: facilities and the menu of senior-school options are narrower than at the bigger international names in the city, and families wanting a wide pool of peers or a large extracurricular programme tend to look elsewhere. A reasonable choice for German-speaking families or those who want serious German immersion from kindergarten.
