Agora Barcelona International School

Globeducate school 35km southwest of Barcelona in the Baix Llobregat valley, with boarding from age 11. Around 500 students, ages 1 to 18, following the IB continuum alongside the Spanish curriculum. IB DP authorised since 2015; Forbes Top 100 Schools…

A Globeducate-operated bilingual school on a 25-hectare campus in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, around 25 km from central Barcelona. Spanish Bachillerato alongside the IB Diploma since 2017, with a boarding option for ages 12 to 18.

Founded in 2008 and now part of the Globeducate group, Agora Barcelona is one of the cheaper IB routes in the Barcelona area, which matters because the city's name-brand internationals run two to three times the fee. The trade-off is location. The school sits well outside the city, and most expat families looking to live in central Barcelona, Sarrià or Pedralbes will find the daily commute hard work, which is partly why the boarding programme exists.

The site itself is the selling point: full sports complex with a 25-metre indoor pool, music and arts studios, dedicated boarding accommodation. Suits Spanish-speaking families in Baix Llobregat, families wanting boarding within reach of Barcelona, or anyone who wants the IB without the central-Barcelona price tag. Less natural for parents who want a tight expat international community in town.

  • Reviews split sharply. Aggregate ratings are low, but parent comments range from "nothing less than excellent" to advice to look elsewhere. The school operates as Globeducate's Agora Sant Esteve Sesrovires campus, with a long bus ride from central Barcelona that several reviewers flag.
  • Positive parents praise early years and primary specifically, the school psychologist and nurse, homemade food, and sports facilities.
  • Negative parents and at least one ex-staff member describe leadership and coordinators with weak English, low staff morale, and a sense the original project has slipped. One ex-teacher posting on the international teachers circuit corroborated the staffing concerns.
  • One parent cited lower turnover of teachers in early years; later reports describe that as having shifted.
