Amersfoort International School
Reviews
A very new and very small primary, opened in August 2023 and verified as an IB World School running the PYP in September 2025. Sits under the Dutch subsidised model (DSO), which keeps fees low and brings the Inspectorate of Education in as a quality check. Shares its Noordewierweg building with Dutch primary De Kubus, with mixed-language lunches and joint celebrations baked into the week. Independent parent voice is essentially absent so far, which is what you would expect of a school in its second full year with around 30 pupils.
Positives
- Fees and access. Subsidised under the Dutch international-school model, with annual fees around EUR 4,000-4,500, a fraction of the typical international tuition in the Randstad. No waiting list at the time of writing, places open across year groups.
- Small, mixed cohort. About 30 pupils across the school, roughly 12 nationalities, average class of 12 and capped at 20. The mix skews international with a Dutch minority, and the building share with De Kubus gives English-medium families regular exposure to Dutch peers.
- Curriculum and inspection. Authorised IB World School delivering the PYP, with the Dutch Inspectorate of Education sitting over quality assurance. Native English-speaking teachers, Dutch language lessons in the timetable, after-school care to 18:30.
Considerations
- Leadership change. Founding head Jaap Mos handed over to Louise Everson in December 2024, a year and a half into the school's life. New leadership lands at the same moment as IB authorisation, so the next couple of years will set the tone.
- Scale and track record. Primary only, ending at age 12, so families plan an onward move for secondary. Pupil numbers are still small, programme depth and specialist provision will grow with the roll rather than being established on day one.
- Location. Amersfoort, not Amsterdam. About 50 minutes from central Amsterdam by train, well-placed for families based around Utrecht, Hilversum, and the Amersfoort tech and pharma corridor.
